Gasherbrum II (8,035m) is the 13th highest mountain in the world and a prominent member of the Gasherbrum group in the Karakoram Range, which includes six towering peaks, two of which—Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II—surpass 8,000m. Known for its striking beauty and challenging terrain, G II has been a sought-after summit for mountaineers since the early 20th century.

The first exploration of Gasherbrum II occurred in 1909, when an Italian expedition, led by the Duke of Abruzzi, ventured into the Karakoram. Among the members was famed photographer Vittorio Sella, whose legendary images of the mountain remain unmatched for their clarity and beauty. Despite the pioneering exploration, the mountain would remain unclimbed for many years.

The first successful summit of Gasherbrum II took place on July 7, 1956, when an Austrian team led by Fritz Moravec reached the top via the South West Ridge.

Today, Gasherbrum II remains a popular target for climbers, as it is considered one of the less technically difficult of the 8,000m peaks. Despite its accessibility, the mountain still presents a significant challenge, with high-altitude conditions and unpredictable weather.
